SHANGHAI, January 23 -- Shanghai The Economic Institute of Central and Eastern European Countries was officially established in Shanghai today under the collaboration between China-CEEC Fund and China Europe International Business School (CEIBS).  The Institute specializes in research on economy, finance, production, investment, trade, culture, and community in Central and Eastern European countries. Its insights will provide Chinese businesses with consultancy regarding the Central and Eastern markets. It is expected to facilitate both the 16+1 Framework and the Belt and Road Initiative with latest research and strategic advices.

 

Prof. LI Mingjun, the President of China Europe International Business School, said, China Europe International Business School (CEIBS), as a joint-venture for management education co-founded by the Chinese government and European Union (EU), enjoys an innate advantage on promoting the economic cooperation between China and Europe.  The Institute will establish academic exchange with business schools and think tanks from 16 Central and Eastern European countries. The partnerships and the relative research will help the Chinese government in their cooperation with Central and Eastern European countries.

 

Jiang Jianqing, the Board Chair of China-CEEC Financial Holdings Co. Ltd. (China-CEEC Fund), sees the Central and Eastern Europe as an important hub along the Belt and Road Initiative. However, our knowledge of the area is not even close to enough, compared to that of Western Europe.  As one of the critical proportions in global emerging markets, Central and Eastern Europe enjoys highlighted geographical advantage.  Its vital position in the Eurasian Economic Belt makes it a regional cornerstone in the Belt and Road Initiative.

 

Lu Jianzhong, the Founding Chair of Silk Road Chamber of International Commerce, said the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative in Central and Eastern Europe calls for cooperation, collaboration, integration, and promotion from all parties. It needs consultancy of think tanks, connectivity of eSilkRoad, and multi-dimensional financial structure.

 

The newly established institute is a professional and open think tank. It will publish research reports regularly and conduct special research focused on different industries. The Institute will finance books and research on economic and social affairs in Central and Eastern Europe. It will assist in organizing seminars on Central and Eastern Europe and academic exchange between China Europe International Business School and think tanks or business schools from 16 Central and Eastern European countries. It will help the Chinese government in their cooperation with Central and Eastern European countries.

 

Prof. Jiang Jianqing is appointed as the Chief Supervisor of the Institute, and Prof. Li Mingjun the Vice Chief Supervisor.  Yang Jiemian, Counselor of Shanghai Government and Director of Academic Committee of Shanghai Institutes for International Studies; Chen Qiutu, President of CEFC China Energy Company Limited; Lu Jianzhong, Founding Chair of Silk Road Chamber of International Commerce; Sheng Songcheng, Counselor of People’s Bank of China and Guest Professor of China Europe International Business School; Chen Jindan, President of Europe Office of SINO-CEEF Capital Management Company Limited (China-CEEC Fund), are appointed as directors.

 

Nine former Ambassadors to Central and Eastern European countries also joined the Institute as Guest Experts. They are Zhu Zushou, Lan Lijun, Sun Yuxi, Huo Yuzhen, Tian Changchun, Yuan Guisen, Zhi Zhaolin, Liu Zengwen, and Dong Chunfeng. They will offer their advices and expertise in planning and organization of events, research and development, talents recruitment, and overall strategy. Their presence will facilitates all activities regarding research, exchange and international cooperation, and at the same time, promote the reputation and influence of the Institute as a think tank.
