According to China News Service, China National Tourist Office in Kathmandu and Nepal-China Chamber of Commerce and Industry jointly hosted an interaction program on Silk Road Tourism between China and Nepal in Kathmandu on 19 April 2017. Mr. Dilnath Giri, Minister of Nepalese Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, and Mrs. Yu Hong, Chinese ambassador of China Embassy in Nepal, attended the conference.

Head of China National Tourist Office in Kathmandu Ren Yangzong said that the conference was held in response to “Beautiful China – 2017 Silk Road Tourism Year” promoted by China National Tourism Administration, aiming at encouraging more Chinese and Nepalese to visit each other’s country and promoting the tourism industry development of both countries.

After looking back upon the historical communications between China and Nepal, Ren Yangzong introduced China’s abundant tourism resources and invited Nepalese people to visit China. “A journey to China will be a lifetime experience to every Nepalese,” she said.

Mrs. Yu Hong pointed out that China has become Nepal’s second largest source of foreign tourists. 104,000 Chinese tourists visited Nepal in 2016. And 76,000 Nepalese came to visit China in the same year.

“China is pushing forward the Belt and Road construction. As one important country along route, Nepal has a unique advantage in the Belt and Road cooperation. I believe the Silk Road tourism cooperation between China and Nepal is going to be very fruitful.” She said.
