5th CIIE brings more opportunities to the world
18 Nov 2022

Over the past five years, the China International Import Expo (CIIE) has grown from an expo of imported goods to a grand event featuring exchanges of global resources and ideas, as well as a platform demonstrating cutting-edge technologies, business forms, and models in a wide range of sectors worldwide.

With concerted efforts of all parties, the 5th CIIE was successfully concluded with fruitful cooperation results and expected goals, said Sun Chenghai, deputy director of the CIIE Bureau.

-- Over 2,800 enterprises attracted in commercial exhibition area

The 5th CIIE fulfilled its promise to turn China's huge market into enormous opportunities for the world.

It has attracted more than 2,800 enterprises from 127 countries and regions to participate in the commercial exhibition area, debuting 438 kinds of new products, technologies, and services.

Among them, the number of Fortune Global 500 companies and leading enterprises attending the expo reached 284, higher than that in the 4th session of CIIE.

In addition, this year's expo saw a total of 73.5 billion U.S. dollars worth of tentative deals reached for one-year purchases of goods and services, up 3.9 percent from a year earlier, while the total tentative deals secured in the five sessions of CIIE stood at 344.82 billion U.S. dollars.

At present, the 6th CIIE has started to accept applications from business exhibitors, and more than 100,000 square meters of exhibition area have already been reserved.

-- CIIE's spillover effect continues to grow

Since the first CIIE held in 2018, Bright Food (Group) Co., Ltd., a Chinese food enterprise, has made active efforts to deeply participate in the expo. Covering an exhibition area of over 2,000 square meters each year, it was the largest single exhibitor in the food and agricultural products exhibition area of the expo.

Pan Jianjun, spokesman of Bright Food (Group), spoke highly of the spillover effect of the CIIE. He said that the Group has sent over 1,500 purchasers this year, and the total purchase volume amount purchased is expected to exceed 2.2 billion yuan, higher than that of previous sessions.

Pan added that through CIIE, the Group strived to continuously develop the food industrial and supply chains, increasing the proportion of overseas enterprises' business to more than 35 percent of the Group's overall business.

According to Yin Zheng, executive vice president of Schneider Electric and president of Schneider Electric (China), the annual CIIE provides a world-class platform for Schneider Electric to exhibit, communicate, learn and cooperate, and witnesses its persistence in empowering a wider ecosystem with innovation and collaboration and creating a win-win sustainable development path with its partners in China.

"This year, Schneider Electric has joined hands with partners from more than 10 industries, including petrochemical, commercial construction, infrastructure, new energy and water utilities. The number of signed contracts increased by more than 30 percent over last year," said Yin Zheng.

The spillover effect of CIIE not only spreads to large enterprises, but also to many small and medium-sized enterprises.

Hong Kong Jiayuan Trading Limited showcased intelligent window decorations at the expo. Wang Jiayuan, general manager of the company, hoped that through the CIIE platform, intelligent window decoration can bring a healthy life to thousands of households.

-- Share the fruits of opening-up and stand firm on investing in China

Since 2018, the CIIE has attracted an increasing number of participants. While "sharing the fruits of opening-up", top-notch international enterprises are becoming more determined to invest in China.

As for the prospect on opening up of the Chinese market to the outside world, Jon Penrice, president of Dow Asia Pacific, said that in recent years, the Chinese market has prioritized the low-carbon economy, which has provided the company with more opportunities to cooperate with local Chinese enterprises.

Jon Penrice added that Dow will continue to invest heavily in the Chinese market and look forward to working with Chinese partners for win-win cooperation.

The CIIE has become a vital platform for foreign-invested enterprises to enter the Chinese market, showing the world China's stable and ideal business environment, according to Ai Zhouping, president of Heraeus Greater China, adding that Heraeus firmly believes that investing in China is the right choice.

According to Bian Xin, president of Roche Pharmaceuticals China, Roche attaches great importance to the Chinese market and has full confidence in the future development of China. In the past three years, Roche had invested more than 1.4 billion yuan in China.

Bian added that Roche will continue to ramp up investment in China, accelerate the introduction of global innovative drugs, and explore innovative medical solutions and cooperation models with more partners.
