EU- Eurasia-China Business Summit Focuses on B&R Construction

The two-day EU-Eurasia-China Business Summit opened in Athens, Greece on October 9. The participants expressed support for the Belt and Road Initiative and the hope that all parties would achieve a win-win outcome by increasing mutual trust.

The Greek President Prokopios Pavlopoulos said that Greece attaches great importance to the Belt and Road Initiative, which is rooted in the ancient Chinese philosophy and the historical Silk Road, linking many countries and peoples by both the maritime Silk Road and the land rout. It is of new significance for the infrastructure and trade development, and for the economic integration in the regions. Greek President addressed that the countries along the Silk Road should strengthen mutual trust to speed up the implementation of joint projects that benefit all parties.

Chairman of Silk Road Chamber of International Commerce, the co-sponsor of the summit, Mr. Lu Jianzhong said in the keynote speech that Greece has significant geographical advantages and natural resources in construction of the Belt and Road. The summit theme here is building the bridge between the East and West. He suggested the improvement of international business rules and standards, building channels for trade flows, using the Silk Road online for connectivity, setting up platforms for pragmatic cooperation, for financing, and for cultural and people exchanges.

 

The summit was also co- sponsored by The Economist and Greek Eurasian Economic Council. The participants of more than a hundred included Greek Alternate Minister of Tourism Elena Kountoura, EU  Commission official for immigration, internal and civil affairs Dimitris Avramopoulos and other government representatives, business leaders, and scholars from the Belt and Road countries and regions.
