Hong Kong, Dec. 9 (by Jiang Tingting, Xinhua News) The First Silk Road International Investment Forum and Inaugural Ceremony of Silk Road Chamber of International Commerce will kick off on 10th December in Hong Kong. At a press conference on the 9th, the leadership of Silk Road Chamber of International Commerce spoke highly of the Belt and Road Initiative, and expressed their intent to contribute to the Initiative.

Mr. Jean-Guy Carrier, Executive Chairman of SRCIC, said the Belt and Road Initiative made an inspiring achievement by attracting global attention, and would make significant changes to the international economic landscape. Some estimate that Silk Road countries will see up to 5 trillion US dollars in investment, accounting for 1.8% of total GDP globally. “It is obvious that the Belt and Road Initiative will bring enormous opportunities to Silk Road countries in improving the regional livelihood and integrating impoverished countries into the international community,” said Jean-Guy Carrier.

He also mentioned that the earliest chamber of commerce was established only a few centuries ago, while the Silk Road enjoys a history of more than two thousand years. Now, the two ancient concepts will meet in Hong Kong and lay the foundation for the Silk Road Chamber of International Commerce. He expressed the hope that the SRCIC would help integrate international enterprises into the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative. The Honorary Chair of World Chambers Federation, Rona Yircali, said the Belt and Road Initiative would undoubtedly promote investment and employment, driving the economic development of Silk Road countries. “Its positive impacts are evident at present as well as in the future.”

Chairman of Silk Road Chamber of International Commerce, Lu Jianzhong, said the Belt and Road Initiative received a popular welcome and support because it would bring new opportunities for development for Silk Road countries. SRCIC will carry on providing a platform for closer trade and exchange between Silk Road countries.

The reason to base the SRCIC in Hong Kong, as Lu Jianzhong said, lies in its geographical advantage, well established infrastructure, transport, human resources and services, and strong support from the SAR government. “That’s why member chambers, after discussions, reached a consensus on Hong Kong as the headquarters.”

Silk Road Chamber of International Commerce is a non-profit, non-political international business organization, co-funded by China International Chamber of Commerce, World Chambers Federation, chambers of commerce of Silk Road countries, and Tang West Market Group. Now it has 35 member chambers.
